Pine River Institute

Ontario Residential treatment Centre

4.0/5 rating (5 votes)
Pine River Institute (PRI) is a unique residential treatment program and
outdoor leadership experience for youth 13-19, right here in Ontario. We
opened our doors in 2006. Our students are struggling with addictive
behaviours and often concurrent mental health issues.

We are a family-centered program where wilderness, therapeutic, and academic
programs come together in an integrated treatment and education model. PRI's
treatment approach is grounded in enhancing adolescent development and
maturation. Our families work alongside their youth in a parallel process
program.

Ongoing evaluation and outcome analysis are built in to PRI’s vision and
mission, and we have acquired a solid reputation in these areas.

Year-round, our students begin the program spending 8-10 weeks in Algonquin
Park camping, canoeing, hiking, snowshoeing, participating in group
initiatives, group and individual therapy, and journaling. From here they
move to our 200 acre campus outside of Toronto and participate in academics,
individual, group, and family therapy, expressive arts, athletics and
outdoor recreation, community service, and family activities.

Educational engagement is a key element of our program. We are staffed by
certified teachers and an Educational Assistant from the Upper Grand
District School Board, all with Special Education qualifications. All
students are working toward a Secondary School Diploma or Certificate, or
are enrolled in online post-secondary courses. In consultation with the
clinical team, the academic department will fashion an individual academic
plan for each student.

The staff team is comprised of highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated
psychologists, social workers, addiction specialists, certified teachers,
creative arts therapists, recreational and adventure therapists, child and
youth care workers, researchers, and chefs. We have a consulting MD who
visits our campus bi-weekly.

With a 4:1 student to staff ratio, we have the opportunity to build strong
relationships with our students and families as they progress through the
program. At Pine River youth find a home; a place where they feel safe and
inspired to change and mature.
